MACQUARIE UNIVERSITY PART 3A CONCEPT PLAN STATE ENVIRONMENTAL PLANNING POLICY (MAJOR PROJECTS) AMENDMENT

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Macquarie University is located in the Macquarie Park Corridor, which forms part of the Global Economic Corridor identified in the NSW Government's Metropolitan Strategy for Sydney titled City of Cities - A Plan for Sydney's Future. The Macquarie University State Environmental Planning Policy (Major Projects) Amendment and Concept Plan will help achieve the strategic vision of the Metropolitan Strategy and the Inner-North Subregional Strategy, to 2031. The documentation has been prepared pursuant to Part 3A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979.

The University, since inception in 1964, has prepared development plans to guide the growth of the University. The most recent Macquarie University Campus Development Plan 2004 (CDP), was a comprehensive plan developed in response to the establishment of the Macquarie Park Corridor as a key driver of the New South Wales economy and the development of a new rail station on Campus. The CDP forms the basis of the proposed planning controls.

The Concept Plan will promote the consolidation of the academic functions within a compact and centralised academic core, as well as allow for the expansion of both academic and non-academic activities and uses, consistent with the University's role as a "campus type working environment" under the Inner North Subregional Strategy. In addition to changes to the permitted uses and built form of the Campus, the Concept Plan will promote a shift away from car dependency and increase the use of pedestrian, cycle and public transport infrastructure facilities being developed within the University. This will be supported by Transit-oriented Development in close proximity to the new rail station.

Public exhibition has closed.
