Central Courtyard Activities

The following guidelines represent the conditions applicable in regard to activities proposed within the Central Courtyard.

  1. All activities proposed for the Central Courtyard are to be referred to the Office of Facilities Management for agreement prior to the event. The students' representative bodies will provide a co-ordinated one month in advance programme of proposed activities for approval. The Office of Facilities Management will check for any clashes with other scheduled functions/activities and notify the respective offices in the vicinity of the Courtyard. Any amendments are to be forwarded one week in advance.

  2. When practical, sound amplified activities are to be held in the Ampitheatre.

  3. Sound amplified activities are to commence no earlier than 1.00 pm, with the exception of reasonable sound checks, which can be carried out from 12.45 pm. All amplified activities are to cease at 2.00 pm unless otherwise agreed by the Office of Facilities Management. Noise levels during sound amplified activities are to be limited so that the noise level within any of the surrounding buildings does not exceed 55dB(A).

  4. Amplified activities are to be restricted to two activities within any one week with the exception of special occasions such as Union Week, Orientation Week and Conception Day. Detailed programmes are to be submitted to the Office of Facilities Management for discussion/approval for such occasions. Amplified activities within the Central Courtyard are to be restricted to a maximum of one per week.

  5. Wherever possible, all displays, stages, tables and booths are to be restricted to the paved surfaces and must not impede pathways.

  6. Vehicles are not permitted to access or park in the Courtyard area without the prior approval of the Office of Facilities Management.

  7. Alcohol is not to be sold or consumed in the Courtyard area. Any consumption outside licensed premises,must be approved by the Office of Facilities Management and undertaken in a responsible manner.

  8. No glass containers are to be sold or used for the consumption of food or drink within the Courtyard area.

  9. All tents, stalls, tables and activities requiring electrical power supplied by flexible cables, must be protected at their point of origin by a safety switch.

    This may be achieved by either plugging the lead into an Electrosafe power point or by providing a portable Electrosafe unit and plugging it into the power point before the lead. All connections must be protected against the ingress of water and leads must not be on the ground.

  10. Event organisers shall be responsible for ensuring that the Courtyard is kept in a clean and safe condition for the duration of the event. At the conclusion of the event, the Courtyard is to be cleaned to the satisfaction of the Office of Facilities Management. The event organisers shall be responsible for this final clean and rubbish removal off site.

Any costs incurred through the non-compliance with the above conditions, or as a result of damage to University property as a direct result of the actions of groups or individuals involved in or attending the event, shall be the responsibility of the event organisers.
