OFFICE OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT (OFM)

Parking

Parking on the Macquarie University campus is limited.  Macquarie has 32,000 students, 4,000 staff and commercial tenants with hundreds of employees, but only approx 5200 car parking spaces. We allow entry permits to be bought by all students and staff so that our parking space usage is optimised. That means, if you purchase an entry permit, you are not guaranteed a parking space, or a space close to your destination.

The parking situation will not get any better due to Government Restrictions and targets, and you are encouraged to find alternative transport to the University.  To find out about more sustainable methods of accessing the University, the Sustainability website has a wealth of information.
http://www.mq.edu.au/sustainability/actiongroups/transport/transport.html

Parking restrictions apply from 6:00am until 8:00pm, 7 days a week.

Parking compliance is enforced under the NSW Road Rules for a Restricted Parking Area.  These rules mean that fines and further action will be enforced for any breach of the road or traffic rules within the Macquarie University Campus.

Child Care Permits

Childcare permits are available free of charge on application to your your child care provider. This permit allows the vehicle to park for up to 30 minutes in specially marked areas ‘P30 minutes Set Down’ located in from of the Child Care centres X5A, X5B and X6A.

This permit does not allow parking in any other parking areas on campus.

Contractor Permits

Each project and principal contractor on the project will receive one contractor’s permit. The permit allows the contractor’s vehicle to be parked in the general parking areas. It does not guarantee location proximity or a place to park. Contractor’s employees, sub-contractors and providers, must obtain and display a valid casual entry permit.

Should there be a dedicated contractor’s compound for the duration of the project, vehicles parked inside the compound, inclusive of contractor’s, employees, sub-contractors, deliveries and service providers are exempt and do not need to display a valid permit.

All requests for Contractor Permits must go through the Office of Facilities Management for approval.

Dedicated Parking

Marked parking bays are dedicated for the use of specific positions, individuals or group(s) and may be controlled by means of posted signs and physical barriers such as lockable bollards or boom gates.

Disability Parking (including Temporary Permits)

NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA) disability permits are honoured at Macquarie University. Vehicles displaying these permits may park in specially designated ‘disabled only’ spaces, or general parking areas at no charge. Map [PDF 297 KB]

Temporary Disability Parking

Students or Staff who have a short-term mobility limitation (ie recent surgery, broken limb) may obtain a ‘Temporary Disability’ permit for a period of time. A supporting medial report is required prior to the issue of this permit. Both a valid University permit and the ‘Temporary Disability’ permit must be displayed inside the driver’s side of the windscreen when parking in a ‘disabled only’ space.

To apply for a Temporary Disability permit, contact the Security Manager on ext 7135.

Loading & Unloading

There are designated sign posted areas that are specifically to be used for the purpose of loading or unloading by University service vehicles, contractors, suppliers or external service providers for a period of 1 hour (60 minutes) or less. Loading and unloading close to buildings in areas not marked or sign posted requires prior exemption from the Security Manager (ext 7135). Map [PDF 206 KB]

Lost & Stolen Permits

If your permit is lost or stolen, report it immediately to the Security Office in Building C1A. Contact Phone 9850 7112 or ext 7112. You will need to complete a Lost/Stolen Permit Report and also provide a Statutory Declaration prior to receiving a replacement permit at a cost of $40.

Recovered, lost or stolen permits must be returned to the Security Office as soon as possible. Use of a lost or stolen permit by anyone will result in Infringement notices being issued.

Motorcycles

Motorcycle parking is provided in specially marked areas throughout the campus. Motor cycles do not need to pay or obtain entry permits if they park in these designated bays.

Parking Infringements (including Infringement Appeals)

Parking compliance at Macquarie University is enforced under the NSW Road Rules for a Restricted Parking Area. Enforcement of the Restricted Parking Area is managed through the issue of infringements or penalty notices which are processed by the State Debt Recovery Office, Office of State Revenue, NSW Government.

Any driver who violates the University’s Traffic and Parking rules, eg by parking in the wrong area with the wrong kind of permit, and/or contrary to signs will be issued with an penalty notice in excess of $80. Infringements will include breaches of any of the existing parking restrictions, ie no parking in reserved and/or special permit areas (generally line marked in yellow), no parking in access lanes/roadways, no parking in areas other than marked parking bays, etc.

Any vehicle parked on the campus between 6.00am – 8.00pm, Monday to Sunday, is required to display a valid parking permit or display a valid ticket in bays where ticket machines are installed.

Infringement Appeals

If you would like to find out more information about why you incurred an infringement, you can call the Security Supervisor on ext7175.

When seeking a review of a Penalty Notice, a 'Request a Review of a Penalty Notice' form needs to completed and forwarded to: SDRO, PO Box 4444, Parramatta, NSW, 2124.

Download the form from http://www.sdro.nsw.gov.au/ under 'Services', 'Forms', 'Forms and Factsheets'. The form is self-explanatory on how to complete and request a review.

Reviews cannot be referred to the University.
